Awesome street art, a rockin' block party and an amazing visual legacy in an otherwise miserable part of town.

Have a look at the See No Evil facebook page for loads of pics and links to 360 views of the day and the Bristol Culture blog for some great before and after shots as above and below.

simple but effective

Our client, a professional hair product manufacturer was holding 2 shows across the North of England to showcase the creative work of their artistic directors.

Creating a very minimal design we built a stage set, impressive in its scale and size, with effective branding without busting the budget. The shows included cutting. colouring and model presentations.

The simple white stage set design was the perfect backdrop for the live images, guests commented on how clearly they could see the detailed work and the vivid colours of the hair on screen. Dramatic lighting effects were maximised, creating impactful scenes for the model presentations. As always great hair and styling from the artistic team.

You can see more of the great photography taken at the two shows on our flickr page.

Tetris

If you don't know it Tetris is the classic arcade game, you have to move these awkward shapes around to fill the space you have as ever more pieces of increasingly awkward shape rain down on you, the skill is in juggling the pieces so they best fit together.

I mention the game as at times this roadshow event is a little like a game of Tetris. Each year we are governed by the same constraints of vehicle payloads, working time regulations, budget and journey plan. But every year the end-product has to be different. So with, effectively the same pieces we rebuild the puzzle each year to create a new format for the shows.

The result is an incredibly successful annual roadshow that runs over 5 weeks, with 2 teams on the road, visiting 3 cities over 3 days of each week, seeing on average 200 guests at each show, thats over 5,000 in total !

The client's brand stands out in their market, as the only brand, that is prepared to reach out to their customers on this scale. And as one of the fastest growing brands in their sector, consistently out performing market averages, its working for them.

With the innovative and creative new formats we provide they are able to do this consistently and very cost effectively.

heads or tails ?

San Francisco for 5 days ...

We were never going to agree on who was going to go on site for this project, unfortunately Jos won out. It was in Washington last year and I missed out then too, I may need to start pulling rank.

Jos will be off to the TCT congress in November with a small group of key opinion leaders from the UK. She's booked a great little boutique hotel, the Villa Florence within an easy walk of the Moscone congress centre, so delegates have all the convenience of a congress hotel, but in a much more personal and friendly environment, perfect for our small group.

Next will be to select some restaurants, with strict regulations governing spend and selection, we'll be looking for those special little places the locals know, serving up great food and ambience without the prohibitive price tag.

top gear

Whilst at EIBTM last November, I dropped my business card in to a raffle – and actually won a prize!  Dinner, Bed & Breakfast for two at the brand new Doubletree Brooklands Hotel and Spa in Surrey.

A visit to Confex in the Spring, led to a meeting with Nathan from Mercedes-Benz World who suggested a show around while at Brooklands. With an overnight stay and a driving experience on offer bags were packed and we headed up the M4.

The hotel suite, facilities and staff were fab, the spa facilities a treat, the food (and cocktails!) were delicious and the track experience with Mercedes was superb. We checked in to our fabulous suite and headed over to Mercedes-Benz World next door where we enjoyed a great experience on the track with our co-pilot and educator Cliff – a patient man! Learning how to control an AMG tuned C Class Mercedes on a wet track was incredible and feeling the power of a 6.3 litre engine was something else (especially when I drive a Peugeot 106)!

With modern and flexible meeting facilities at the hotel, large conference space at Mercedes-Benz combined with the variety of driving experiences available, utilising both for company team building sessions is an ideal set up and definitely something to keep in our minds for future group challenges.

Thanks to both the Doubletree Brooklands Hotel and Spa and Mercedes-Benz World for their time and hospitality!

a night at the races

On Wednesday evening we all jumped on the train and headed over to Bath's racecourse for an evening of horse racing. What we hadn't realised is that the race course, on the top of Lansdown, is possibly the coldest and windiest place on earth. Most of the night was spent in the bar, to keep warm of course, punctuated by quick dashes outside to stick a bet on and watch the races.

Overall we were pretty rubbish at picking winners, having a nice name is, as it turns out not the most reliable way to predict success. Between us we did win a few races but didn't come home any richer as all of our winnings were spent on keeping warm!

Amy won the biggest sunglasses competition.
